Babbitt Bearing Company was founded in 1945 as an automotive bearing
and crank shaft repair shop on Vine Street in San Jose, California. After a few years,
the company started doing machining and chrome plating work for farmers and fruit canneries in
the area, which led to machine work and chrome plating for FMC Corporation.
In 1960, the company moved to its present location on 5th Street in
San Jose. In 1964 Memorex Corporation, a magnetic tape manufacturer, had a requirement
for chrome plating and ultra precision grinding of coater rolls that bbc was able to do
to their exacting requirements. This was the start of the new era for the company,
concentrating on precision machining and coatings for a wide variety of customers. In
the '70s, '80s and '90s, bbc continued to increase its capabilities by adding new
equipment in all departments to meet the increasing demands of our customers in manufacturing,
prototype and repair. For example, we work on semiconductor equipment, aircraft parts,
printing equipment, and food processing equipment to name a few. Babbitt Bearing Company
is now looking forward to serving our customers' requirements in the next millenium.
